Hemp to play in World 20-20 qualifiers
The decision provides an unexpected boost as Gus Logie's inexperienced squad prepare to take on Ireland and Scotland in the group stages of the qualifying competition in Belfast, starting August 2.
Bermuda must finish in the top three at the six-team tournament, which also includes Kenya, Holland and Canada, to qualify for the World Cup.
Hemp, 37, who has a wealth of 20-20 experience with his county, will be instrumental to achieving that aim.
"It's been awkward from my point of view - missing a game for Glamorgan - but it is a big chance for me to try and help the side qualify for next year's World Cup.
"20-20 is the talk of the town at the moment. It's an exciting game to play in and I'm looking forward to linking up with the rest of the squad in Ireland."
Hemp, the only player to make double figures the last time Bermuda played an international 20-20 game, losing by nine wickets to Guyana in the Stanford tournament, said the team would have to get back to basics if they were to have improved results this time.
"Whatever format you play you have to get the basics right. You've got to think on your feet and make decisions every ball. One bad over can lose you the game.
"It can't be all about slogging. Hitting straight, running between the wickets, shot selection. As a bowler you've got to keep your line and length but also experiment with slower balls and use your variations. It tests your all-round game."
Hemp believes Bermuda have a tough draw with Ireland and Scotland in the opening round.
"Both those sides have had a lot of exposure against county teams in the Pro40 league and the Friends Provident trophy."
Hemp admits that he originally dismissed 20-20 as a PR exercise, but is now a convert. "It's taken the world by storm. I'm really looking forward to playing in this tournament. Hopefully I can help Bermuda qualify for the World Cup in the U.K. next summer."[[In-content Ad]]
