We witnessed up and coming equestrians from the ages of nine and above school their ponies around a course of cross rails! The first class also saw some brand new ponies on the island and all showcased their skills superbly. It looks like we are in for a competitive show season!
The day continued with classes from 2'0 - 2'7". The BEF has revisited the use of selection trials where our junior riders will compete for spots on the Bermuda team to represent Bermuda at the 2010 Caribbean Equestrian Junior Jumping Competition and Chile Junior Jumping Invitational in November 2009.
We had seven competitors in the CEA trials class and it turned out to be a stiff competition. Most of the seven riders competing jumped clear rounds and the results were based on the overall fastest time.
The results of the jumping class are only one component of the overall criteria for the BEF Board to select the team for the 2010 CEA competition. Tyler Lopes who placed second in the CEA trials will be representing Bermuda at the Children's of America Dressage Invitational at the end of the month.
The day ended with two of our junior riders competing for a spot on the Chile Junior Jumping Invitational Show Jumping team. There was one competitor in each of the age groups who had to demonstrate their ability to ride horses and compete at the heights of 3'3" and 3'7" respectively. Both Azaria Smith who rode Ready or Not and JayLynn Hines on The Patriot will compete in Chile in November.
So in all the day went off without incident and we look forward to the upcoming show season.
