God's mandate to Noah shows the importance of home

By Rev. Dr. Maria Seaman- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

A mandate is when God sets forth a mission, a directive, or a command. God issued a mandate to Noah.

What I like is that God was able to take comfort in knowing that when He spoke to Noah, His words would not fall on deaf ears.

God essentially rested His words in Noah, a safe place. Dare I say it, God found a home for His will and His Word to be carried out in the house of Noah. Amazing!

The earth was corrupt and sin was abounding, but God still found a righteous man who was willing to hear, and then obey.

Genesis 7: 5 - 7:

(5) And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.

(6) And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

(7) And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.

God told Noah to take his household (all that lived with him) and move into a new home. Now what I want to point out is that the ideal solution to the housing issues is seen here.

God's plan

Noah, the man, prepared a place that was built according to the building code of God. Bermuda, if we do not build houses according to God's building codes then what we are building will not last.

The foundation of each and every house should be that it is based on God's Word. Indeed, in order to survive and even thrive during these perilous times in which we live, we must depend upon God's hand and not upon a human hand.

Every home should be a Noah experience. That is, the home should be a place where one finds rest; a place where one finds comfort, and ultimately a place where one finds safety. In Noah, God found a place to call home!

New world

Therefore, it stands to reason that when God ordained that the world would be made a new place, a new Genesis, God did something that was responsible and needful. God instructed His servant to build a new home - the Ark.

That shows how important and necessary a house is. Every family must have a place where they are safe from danger, safe from the elements, safe to eat, to be in peace, safe to love, be fruitful, and multiply. That was God's order for Noah's day and that is God's order for this present day.

Unless families of Bermuda find housing, they too will not rest or be comfortable.

So it stands to reason that today's heroes and champions must become those who are able to find a house or build a house for someone else. I listen to the radio talk shows, and it seems that the housing crisis in Bermuda remains a key topic of discussion. That makes sense, for there is something about finding a place where the people, the families can be safe and at rest. Hence, Noah's mandate to build a home remains the mandate of today.
