Global Travel to close
FRIDAY, MAY 18: The travel agent Global Travel will shut its doors for the last time at the end of the month.
Owner Deryn Higgins described the move to close down her business as ‘devastating and overwhelming’.
Mrs Higgins said the global downturn as well as the growing trend of holiday makers booking their vacations over the Internet were the main reasons behind the decision.
She said: “I want to thank all of our customers for their patronage over the last 14 years and wish them all the best.
“It is a hard time for everyone in Bermuda at the moment and this is just another example of that.”
Mrs Higgins started up Global Travel 14 years ago with a business partner.
And over the years the company has provided customers with cruises, tours and vacation packages from its offices on Reid Street in Hamilton.
The closure will leave two full-time members of staff without jobs.
Mrs Higgins added: “When I first started this business it was because I had a passion for travel and helping people.
“Our last day of business will be May 31.
“Anyone who has already booked holidays with us will obviously have those agreements honoured.”
