Frank increases lead, Caisey wins first race
In the 125cc Shifter Class Brandon Frank continued his bid for back-to-back championships by winning the first race of the day followed closely by Shannon Caisey, who was driving for Scott Barnes and Jason Correia driving for Justin Frank. In the second Shifter race Caisey got the jump on the start and went on to lead every lap to get his first victory since returning to karting earlier this season. Frank managed to hang onto second place with Correia and Mickel Caines rounding out the top four.
In the third Shifter heat, it was Caisey once again took an early lead, but only held onto it until the second lap when Frank made the move and got around him. Frank led the rest of the race with Caisey in hot pursuit, followed by Caines, Vincent Belboda and Correia.
Barnes continues to lead the 125cc Shifter Class Championship, but only by only 25 points over the defending champion Brandon Frank. Justin Frank kept hold of his third place position while Belboda moved up one spot to fourth in his bid to get to the top. Caines, last year's 125cc Shifter Rookie Class champion, made his debut this season in the 125cc Shifter Semi-Pro points chart.
TAG Class
The TAG Class played out to be the most competitive. Class newcomer Scott Barnes took an early lead followed very closely by the rest of the pack. While Barnes held the lead, the real race was for second where David Barbosa, Patrick Ingham, Brandon Frank (driving for his father Kevin) and Kareem Johnson would swap for position throughout the remainder of the laps. At the line Barnes was followed by Ingham, Frank, Barbosa and Johnson.
In the second heat Championship points leader Barbosa managed to get out front early, followed closely by Ingham, Frank and Johnson. Barnes got left behind as he got himself caught out trying to make an early move going into the second corner and ended up spinning out. Meanwhile it was Barbosa would slowly pull out to a big lead while Frank and Ingham swapped positions for second place and Johnson retired to the pits early with a technical problem.
Barnes made up lost time and managed to catch the karts of Ingham and Frank. He eventually managed to get around them both - passing Frank on the last lap. At the line it was Barbosa, Barnes, Frank and Ingham.
Going into the third race it was expected to be another close battle with Barbosa and Barnes out front early jockeying for position. Frank, Ingham and Johnson fought it out for third place. Frank was able to dominate the third position for the majority of the race over Ingham, but with three laps to go Ingham made his way around Frank. Barnes won the close battle up front in spite of Barbosa trying to make a last corner 'sling shot' move around him coming to the line. Ingham would bring up the third position, Frank in fourth and Johnson in fifth.
The top four points positions in the TAG Class Championship remained unchanged as Barbosa managed to increase the gap over the rest of the contenders. Ingham was able to make some headway in second over Johnson in third while Kevin Frank gained a few points on Johnson and trails closely in fourth place.
In the 100cc Yamaha Class Joel Cassidy was the lone soldier and picked up and maximum points for two races. He now leads the 100cc Yamaha Class Championship over Natasha Camara. n
