Four schools closed due to fire

FRIDAY, MARCH 30: A total of four schools are closed today after a massive blaze ripped through the Government dump in Pembroke.

Nearby Victor Scott Primary School was closed as a precaution after fires broke out in the dump last night.

CedarBridge Academy – which was put on standby as a shelter for residents around the dump – was also closed, as was Prospect Primary School and the Prospect pre-school nursery.

Firefighters battled throughout the night to contain the fire, which broke out in two separate parts of the dump around 8pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation – but Fire Service chief Vincent Hollinsid said his team had not ruled out the fire being started deliberately.
