Foster, Kyme on target for finals showdown

Top seeds and perennial rivals Patrick Foster and Nick Kyme are on a collision course for the final of the Bermuda Squash Championships on Saturday night.

Both men have sailed into the semis without dropping a set and are expected to book their places in Saturday night's Digicel Blackberry Final later today.

Former professional Kyme must overcome up and coming youngster Micah Franklin - the 17-year-old who is aiming to be Bermuda's next pro player.

Foster faces consistent Canadian Jon Boody, who came through an exciting four-setter against Murray Brewer on Wednesday night.

Foster said: "Anything can happen at this stage of the tournament but if it goes to form it should be myself and Nick in the final.

"I'm feeling good and looking to win my fourth title in a row. Nick last won it in 2005 and he's determined to get his title back, so it's going to be interesting."

Foster said he was pleased to see the progress of Franklin who has come through the junior ranks to become one of the island's best players.

Franklin has cruised through the opening rounds and will have a large following at the club as he attempts to upset Kyme tonight.

"He's one of our top youngsters. He has played for Bermuda in the Caribbean championships. He's aiming to go as far as he can in the game and this will be a good test for him to see what level he is at. "It will be really interesting to see how he does."

Foster is hoping to come through his own semi-final against Boody relatively unscathed and with enough in the tank for what should be a real battle with Kyme on Saturday night.

"It's a draw of 64 so it's quite intensive. You have to win six games in seven days to win this tournament.

"Tonight's match will be the biggest test I've had so far. John's a very consistent player and rarely has a bad game."

In the women's draw top seeds Liz Martin and Denise Kyme could renew their longstanding rivalry.

Leah Bishop and Denise Sommers, finalists for the past few years, were both unable to take part and Martin and Kyme, who had contested the final on many occasions in the past, have seized the opportunity to get back to the top. Martin must overcome newcomer Suzie Stones in the semi-final while Kyme plays Kim Morbury.[[In-content Ad]]
