WEDNESDAY, MAY 18: Former Senate President Alf Oughton will be honoured at this year’s ninth annual Bermuda Health Foundation’s Salute to Service luncheon.

The event will take place on June 24 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Harbourview Ballroom.

The Bermuda Health Foundation said it was fitting to recognize Mr Oughton for his work in the community, particularly the Health Care Review Report he produced in May 1996.

Mr Oughton was appointed to chair the Health Care Review Sub-Committee by the then Minister of Health, Social Services and Housing, Quinton Edness, in September 1993.

In addition to presenting the Salute to Service Award to Mr Oughton, the foundation will also present scholarship awards to successful applicants.

To date it has presented scholarship awards totaling more than $300,000.

Philip Butterfield, chairman of the Bermuda Health Foundation said: “Although Bermuda and the rest of the world continue to experience the effects of the global recession, the Bermuda Health Foundation is committed to assisting those Bermudians who are interested in careers in the medical field.

“Last year we received a record number of applicants and as usual it was difficult for us to select four students to receive our annual scholarship.”
