Former pros Hubbard, Hedges to head up cycling clinics
Open to all children ages 8 to 14, the free event has been designed to attract youngsters to the fun and excitement of bicycle riding and racing.
Leading the sessions to be held from 3pm to 6pm on June 24, July 15 and August 19 at the Warwick Academy field will be former professional cyclists Elliot Hubbard and Kris Hedges plus rising star Ashley Robinson.
The programme for the day will include various skills, tricks and safety drills plus some racing.
Those wishing to participate should arrive at Warwick Academy by 3pm where they will register and have their cycle checked by a mechanic before the riding commences.
Helmets are mandatory for all participants and it suggested that children bring a water bottle.
There is no charge for participating in these events and children attending all three will earn a certificate of completion.
Hubbard, now completing his legal pupilage with Conyers Dill & Pearman, was a professional cyclist and had a distinguished career with the Navigators team in the U.S.
Instrumental in bringing professional cycling to Bermuda, he is now employed with the title sponsor of the CD&P Bermuda Grand Prix.
Hedges completed his pro cycling career with VC Ponitvy in France after racing with Team Snow Valley for several years.
He is now involved in team management, having looked after the Bermuda cycling team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia and will lead the entire Bermuda delegation to the CAC Games in Columbia next month.
The 21-year-old Robinson is currently in the Honours Programme at Concordia University in Montreal where she is studying Psychology.
Having transitioned from swimming to cycling in the last few years she is pursuing an active racing schedule both here and in North America and will participate in the prestigious Fitchburg Longsjo Classic stage race in Massachusetts at the end of June as part of her race schedule this year.
