Fairmont to Fairmont Race to take place on January 6
TUESDAY, DEC. 18: Fairmont Hotels Bermuda and the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club (MAAC) have announced that the 36th Annual Fairmont to Fairmont Race will be held on Sunday January 6, 2013. The race takes runners on a 7.2 mile course between the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and The Fairmont Southampton and is considered the beginning of the running year, attracting competitors from around the world. A three member team relay over the 7.2 mile course as well as a Junior 3k race are also held as part of the event.
The Fairmont Adult Race will take the competitors from the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel, along Front Street, East Broadway, The Lane, Harbour Road, Burnt House Hill, Middle Road and up The Fairmont Southampton Driveway before finishing at The Fairmont Southampton’s Resort Beach.
This year saw Lamont Marshall and Deon Breary capturing the male and female categories respectively, while Daniel Oatley and Laura Hope won the Junior Male and Female Divisions respectively. Corporate Relay teams Victorious Secret and Team Monty captured the Female and Male Relay honours.
The Fairmont to Fairmont Race is organized by MAAC and sanctioned by the Bermuda Track and Field Association. First run in 1978 as the Princess to Princess, the race was MAAC’s first organized event. Now named Fairmont to Fairmont Race it is the longest-running sponsored road race event in Bermuda.
