Eastern Counties series to be staged at Sea Breeze Oval
Eastern Counties Cricket Association (ECCA) president Harold Millett confirmed today the competition will be played at Bailey’s Bay’s home venue for the third straight year.
“At this stage it is a fact the games will be played at Bailey’s Bay,” he said.
At a recent club meeting the St. David’s membership voted against a proposal to stage this summer’s series at Lords, leaving Millett and his fellow colleagues somewhat “baffled” over their stance.
He said: “Wonders never cease. St. David’s raised hell last year over not hosting the matches.
“Now they have the option to host the series this summer but have declined. I find their position very much baffling.”
St. David’s president Aaron Lugo could not be reached for comment.
Yesterday the Bermuda Sun revealed that St. David’s has decided to participate in this year’s competition, thus bringing an end to a boycott stemming from a long-running dispute with the ECCA over a host of issues.
The Islanders have been drawn in the final round to take place at Sea Breeze Oval on August 27.
This summer’s Eastern Counties series officially bowls off on July 16, with cup holders Cleveland County taking on host Bailey’s Bay in the first round.
Flatt’s will meet the eventual winner of that contest in the second round, to be played on August 13.
