Duffy to get cheque

Flora Duffy, the Bermuda' Sun's Young Athlete of the Year, is set to get help for her Olympic bid.

CAPITAL G is scheduled to hold a press conference Friday morning to announce they are backing the triathlete in her bid to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Financial details were not available at press time.

Duffy is trying to be the second Bermudian to qualify in the triathlon for the Olympics. Previously Tyler Butterfield represented Bermuda at the highest level.

Duffy had a breakthrough year in 2006 starting with an eighth place finish in the Commonwealth Games. She also was second in the Junior World Championships before bursting onto the World Cup scene with top performances in Cancun (6th), Germany (9th) and Beijing (19th).

Besides winning the Bermuda's Sun's Young Athlete of the Year, Duffy also won Islandstats People's Choice Athlete of the Year and is considered one of the frontrunners to win Government's Female Athlete of the Year.[[In-content Ad]]
