FRIDAY, SEPT. 28: A total of 16 out of 17 graduates of a Government-sponsored drywall course have secured construction industry jobs, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Patrice Minors said yesterday.
And she hinted strongly that more job creation initiatives to help get Bermuda back to work were in the pipeline. Ms Minors said: “This Government has come under increasing criticism of late from some sectors of the community who have implied that we’re not doing enough to help people find gainful employment – that’s a myth and it’s untrue.”
The 17-strong Bermuda contingent travelled to Georgia, US for the four-week course, which led to certification as level five drywall mechanics.
Course graduate Dean Grant said: “Just to speak for everyone, this was an excellent opportunity and I really enjoyed it.”
Mr Grant added the intensive course was ‘almost like Boot Camp’.
Fellow graduate Jahzeel Quallo added: “The course was indeed helpful in all aspects of construction – safety-wise, leadership skills and education.
“I’d really encourage other people of my age and other ages to join.”
