Drifters will be burning rubber at Clearwater track
The New Jersey based Drift Brigade are the headline act on a big weekend at the Clearwater Track.
Organisers are promoting the event with the tagline 'where finesse meets adrenaline'.
And while Saturday afternoon - a chilled out exhibition style car show - is undoubtedly the 'finesse' portion of the weekend.
It's the adrenaline fuelled stunt drivers that are expected to pull in the big crowds on Sunday afternoon.
Jah Simmons, one of the promoters, said spectators could expect all kinds of crazy stunts including donuts (spinning round in a circle) drivers hanging outside a moving car and drifting.
"It's hard to explain what drifting is, you pretty much have to see it. If anybody's seen the movie Tokyo Drift - The Fast and the Furious, they'll know what I'm talking about."
As well as the Drift Brigade a new Bermuda based stunt group - Team Technics Auto Drag Racing - will make their public debut on Sunday. There will also be a full slate of Karting races and entertainment from the 2Fools, Mike Wild and some of Bermuda's best deejays.
"It's going to be crazy - a lot of noise, a lot of smoke from the tyres, a lot of speed and adrenaline.
"We've combined with the karting guys to add a bit more substance and to help get more recognition for them."
Tickets for the Car Show on Saturday cost $20 for adults, $10 for kids, under-fours go free. The Drift Show costs $35 for adults and $20 for kids. A 2-day pass is $45 for adults, $25 for kids.
Both shows start at 1pm at the Bermuda Motorsports Park in Clearwater, St David's. Tickets are available in advance from Quija Fabrics in the Walker Arcade, The Edge in Washington Mall and at the i-store on Reid Street.
The event is promoted by Multi-Entertainment and Bermy Kreationz and is part of the Whips and Chainz weekend. n
What's drifting?
Drifting (a definition): Drifting refers to a driving technique and to a motor sport involving the use of the technique. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right), and the driver is controlling these factors.[[In-content Ad]]
