Don't let the door hit you on the way out
FRIDAY, AUGUST 31: The transfer window closes today. Last minute loans and signings for the new messiah becomes the drama of the week. PR presents to the fans — will the panic buy make the impact they should?
Time will tell.
The big games this week include Sunday’s clash at Anfield where the Gunners will be trying to look past another draw and finally get on the score sheet. Saturday sees some close games with the Toffees on the bus to Birmingham to keep their 100 per cent record intact against a strong Albion side.
Top Treble: Man City, Newcastle, Man Utd
Football fact of the week: Rooney only received one yellow card last season.
Saturday
11am unless stated
West Ham v Fulham 8:45am: The Hammers look like they are struggling already and need to bring some players in. Jol has landed Berbatov to strengthen after Demebele makes a move to London rivals Spurs.
Prediction: 1-2
Swansea v Sunderland: A fast paced counter-attacking game is a definite here. Young, bright players will be the telling factor for the O’Neill effect. One to watch!
Prediction: 2-2
Spurs v Norwich: AVB has had a tough start but has invested in some great players with the cash brought in from Modric’s departure. Anything but three points for the home side here will really pile on the pressure.
Prediction: 2-0
Wigan v Stoke: This tie should be a big battle — a few kicks on the cards. Rodallega and Moses have moved on so Wigan will be looking for results to boost morale.
Prediction: 1-1
West Brom v Everton: These are clubs that have started brilliantly against the big clubs by taking 10 from a possible 12 points. Firepower up front and solid defenses from both sides proves this is a tough call.
Prediction: 1-1
Man City v QPR 1:30pm: With Aguero out for at least a month and with Tevez and Balotelli lurking for awful pass-backs it is hard not to see Hughes getting smashed at his former office. Mancini will be checking how deep the pockets go until Friday’s deadline.
Prediction: 4-0
Sunday
Liverpool v Arsenal 9:30am: There are high expectations from both sets of fans has once again not been met — even at this early stage. Rocky results even though Pool deserved more than a point against City. Arsenal have yet to score a goal in this campaign.
Prediction: 1-1
Newcastle v Aston Villa noon: Pardew wasn’t as pushy last week, however the bar-code travellers weren’t at the races for the trip to Chelsea. Lambert is under severe pressure already with zero points on the board. Home points surely?
Prediction: 2-0
Southampton v Man Utd noon: The Saints put in a good performance against City on the opening day but were unable to grind out anything from Wigan at home. United should have the firepower up front to win comfortably.
Prediction: 0-2
