How do you have a happy New Year? How do you turn your back on 2009 and embrace 2010? Bermuda, you do this by embracing the God of yesteryear and the God of the New Year.

There is a quiet assurance that every Christian should have; it is a faith and trust that God will cause you to be victorious in all things. The Christian must believe that God will order your steps and guide you safely to your next destination.

This passage of scripture shows how you can have a happy New Year. When the wise men found the baby Jesus in the manger, they gave gifts to God's Son. Those gifts were not simply items of no value or no importance. No, those gifts meant something very important.

The wise men gave gold. Gold is a symbol of nobility and purity, and pure gold never tarnishes. What a gift for the newborn king Jesus, who was royalty, would never tarnish, and would remain forever.

The wise men gave frankincense. Frankincense, although bitter to the taste, was used as a perfume to sweeten the atmosphere after sacrifices. So, giving frankincense made sense, because Jesus would have to drink the bitter cup of sin in order to yield the fragrance of eternal life for all.

The third gift for the baby was myrrh. Myrrh was the resin from a stunted tree that was used to make anointing oil. Again, here was a gift that echoed who the baby Jesus would grow to become. Jesus would be a stunted tree; only living thirty-three years on the Earth.

Yet, in that short space of time Jesus would be The Anointed One, come to heal, deliver, and set free. I believe that God is still looking for a people who are willing to bring the gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Jesus.

Bermuda, if you want to have a happy New Year, you must come to Jesus and honour Him with the gifts that you have. God has gifted you with a special talent or gift that should be used to expand the Kingdom work here on Earth.

Can you bring the gifts you have and then depart knowing that you have given your best gift to the King of Kings?

Jesus still waits to receive you and the gifts you bring, and it is when you release the gift you carry that God will awaken the many other gifts you have within you.

Remember you can never out-give God. The more you give, the more He gives back to you.

Once the wise men had given their gifts to Jesus, something wonderful occurred; they were able to receive instruction from God.

When you give to God or His Son, He stands ready to give back to you. God told the wise men to go another way, because He wanted the wise men to do something other than what they had planned and different from what King Herod expected.

The year 2010 will be filled with many wise persons. They are the ones who will give to God and then receive precious words of instruction in return.

Bermuda, if you desire to have a happy New Year, you must be willing to do something unexpected. To do what you have always done will lead to the results that you have always gotten. Do not repeat your old ways. No, you must seek God's way.

Happy New Year!
