Bermuda’s favourite sporting event now has its own website.
bermuda.com launched a new site dedicated solely to Cup Match called bermudaCupMatch.com. Bermuda.com is a sister company to the Bermuda Sun.
Glenn Jones, bermuda.com general manager, said: “It’s long past time one of the world’s greatest cultural holidays had a home on the World Wide Web. I think people are going to be pretty impressed with what they see at bermudaCupMatch.com.”
Mr. Jones worked closely with Somerset Cricket Club — host of the 2010 Cup Match Classic — to build the website. A cricket club task force approved a proposal that also permits bermudaCupMatch.com to carry a live stream of the Cup Match television broadcast in late July.
Bermuda CableVision is title sponsor of bermudaCupMatch.com. While HSBC, lead sponsor for the Cup Match 2010 event, will join the new web project as captain sponsor.
The website will feature about 12 sections that include all aspects of Bermuda’s biggest cultural celebration of the year — everything from Cup Match history to Cup Match fashion, cricket highlight videos to player profiles, holiday weekend events to the latest Cup Match news. The website will also touch on old Cup Match traditions like camping and newer traditions like the Chewstick Foundation’s BeachFest Emancipation Celebration.
Plus bermudaCupMatch.com will entice users with contest prizes like a trip to Miami on American Airlines, Helly Hansen gear from The Booth, Grand Slam of Golf tickets from the PGA of America and a year of high definition television and high speed Internet services from Bermuda CableVision. In all, there are seven prizes to drive traffic to the site.
Terry Roberson, CableVision general manager, said: “CableVision is delighted to be the online Title Sponsor of Cup Match this year. We are especially excited to be using another medium, the Internet, to bring this presentation and coverage of Cup Match to the Bermuda public on bermudaCupMatch.com.
“Thanks to this partnership, we’ll be bringing you six great weeks of online entertainment, excitement, contests and fun in the run-up to Cup Match, plus live coverage of the action throughout Cup Match weekend.”
Bermuda-based GMD Consulting developed bermudaCupMatch.com. Mr. Jones said: “It was important to me personally that we did all we could to find a local partner to build this website because we don’t have enough people to do it ourselves at bermuda.com. GMD turned out to be a fantastic fit. It’s employees are Bermudian just like ours, and like all Bermudians, this holiday means something special to them. That personal investment comes through in the final product.”
David Burt CEO of GMD said, “We were honoured to be chosen to build this website. After building sites for many other companies and organizations, this project holds a special place for us. The Cup Match Holiday is more than just two days of cricket and parties, it is the time when we all come together to celebrate our culture and who we are as Bermudians.”
The 2010 Cup Match Classic is the 29th and 30th of July. The website bermudaCupMatch.com is now live and is updated daily.
