WEDNESDAY, JULY 6: Sandwich boards on sidewalks are illegal and might land the Corporation of Hamilton with expensive injury lawsuits, councillors heard.
Mayor Charles Gosling said: “Sandwich boards do create an obstruction — while I don’t have any objections to sandwich boards being on people’s property, when they’re out on the sidewalk and creating an obstruction, we have to draw the line.”
Alderman and Deputy Mayor Glen Smith added that Corporation staff regularly picked up sandwich boards and moved back from sidewalks, but added that they were fighting a losing battle.
He added that the Corporation was reviewing its position on signage in the city “in keeping with the city and taking it from the 19th century into the 21st century.”The Bermuda Sun bids farewell...
