TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21: Government consultant Rolfe Commissiong has beaten long-time PLP MP and former Cabinet Minister Ashfield DeVent in the race to win the candidacy in the PLP safe seat of Pembroke South East.

Mr Commissiong beat Mr DeVent, who has served the constituency for more than 10 years, as well as Senator Jonathan Smith and Vance Campbell.

Mr DeVent has served as Minister for Works, Engineering and Housing and held the junior Ministerial portfolio of Trade, Economy and Industry.

Long-time PLP member Mr Commissiong has recently worked on racial issues and is a special adviser to Premier Paula Cox.

The primary for the seat was held at the PLP’s Hamilton HQ Alaska Hall last night.
