Coach blames 'bad' decisions by batsmen for cricket defeat
MONDAY, APRIL 4: Bermuda coach David Moore has blamed poor shot selection and running between the stumps as the catalyst for his team’s 100-run loss to Namibia today.
Chasing a modest target of 209, Bermuda’s senior national cricket team folded for 108 in the World Cricket League (WCL) Division Two warm-up in Dubai.
Lionel Cann (27), Irving Romaine (18 not out) and Fiqre Crockwell led the resistance.
Earlier, Romaine claimed two wickets for 49 runs as the Namibians were restricted to 208 for five in their allotted 50 overs.
Kyle Hodsoll (one for 20) and Rodney Trott (one for 28) were the only other local wicket takers.
Bermuda were forced to make three changes from the squad that defeated Hong Kong over the weekend for the final WCL warm-up at Dubai Sports City today.
Jason Anderson, Jim West and assistant coach Clevie Wade were drafted into the squad in the absence of Delyone Borden (sore throat), Dion Stovell (bruised toe) and Damali Bell (sprained ankle).
Commenting on his team’s sub-par batting display, coach Moore told the Bermuda Sun: “I was very disappointed with our batting. Our decision making that we make often hurts us, and today we needed to bat at four runs an over and we didn’t set ourselves to bat.
“The plan was to bat 50 overs but we ended up short. People just didn’t set themselves for a big innings.
“Our plan is for one of our top four batsmen to bat through the innings and bat for us at the end, and we didn’t get that. We had two run outs in our innings that was very disappointing.
“It’s just the shot selection and decision making that our guys make, and unfortunately when we make those bad decision it costs us badly.
“But it’s nothing to get too down about. It’s certainly not anything to do with the team’s ability as players.”
Bermuda will face Papua New Guinea on Friday in their opening WCL Division Two Tournament match at the ICC Global Cricket Academy Oval.
