SUNDAY, JANUARY 13: More than 470 signed up at the Hospitality Job Fair last Friday at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
They were applying for nearly 130 jobs on offer.
The event was a partnership between the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Bermuda Hotel Association (BHA) and the Restaurant Division of the Chamber of Commerce.
Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy said in a press release:“I was very impressed with this year’s group of applicants. They were well prepared and we genuinely hope that many them will be successful in finding employment as a result of Friday’s job expo.
“We have an eight per cent unemployment rate – and we need to ensure that we have programmes in place to address this issue. The Hospitality Job Fair is one initiative that helps in our efforts to employ Bermudians.
“The hospitality industry can be a very rewarding career choice, and there were dozens of jobs available, so we really hope that many of these positions will be taken up by Bermudians.”
“This was my first event as Minister, and I am pleased to see the organisation and coordination that has gone into making the job expo a reality. So we certainly wish to commend the Department of Labour and Training, and our industry partners, the BHA and the Restaurant Division of the Chamber of Commerce, for hosting the event, because it truly demonstrates their commitment to getting Bermudians back to work.”
