And so it proved for Controversy Gym as they claimed the title of Bermuda's top boxing club without actually winning a single fight.
The Fists of Fury Ultimate Fighters Championship was cut to four bouts after Jermal Woolridge - hyped by his coach Forty Rego beforehand - failed to show.
Woolridge, who was slated to fight Controversy's Lubin Sousa in the second bout of the night, had been a feature of the pre-match war of words between the two coaches.
First Renaud had accused Rego of dodging bouts with his fighters.
Rego ridiculed that claim saying Renaud had put his 'foot in his mouth' and would have no escape from a fight with Woolridge, who he said was Bermuda's best heavyweight.
But it proved to be an empty threat.
Woolridge did not show and Sousa claimed all 15 points from the bout with a default victory.
Combined with the consolation points from three defeats and a solid performance in the mitt-work demos it was enough to give Controversy a narrow victory over Police Gym, who excelled in the fights but were off the pace in the demos.
"My foot is out of my mouth", proclaimed Renaud after lifting the trophy on Saturday night.
"I don't blame Jermal, I'm sure he only did what his coach told him to do. We would rather have had the bout and lost than win it without fighting.
"We showed up. We lost a couple of fights, we did well on the technical side and we came out on top.
"We showed up and we did what we had to do. Police were better than us on the night. That's great - we know what we have to work on for next time. I don't have any problem with losing bouts in the ring.
"I can tell you we'll have a bigger, stronger team next time. We'll have the whole posse."
