Chance to get up close to planned resort
TUESDAY, MAY 22: The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce (BEST), in cooperation with Warwick residents, is planning an “Information Walk” around the Grand Atlantic housing site on South Road in Warwick, Sunday 27th May between 6pm and 8pm.
The 40-minute walk will begin from the parking areas on the western end of the Southlands property. We will enter the beach at the western end of Southlands Beach and walk east along the beach (on the public property below the high water mark), noting points of interest along the Grand Atlantic stretch. Walkers will exit the beach at Astwood Walk — along a strip of land donated to the Bermuda public by Sir James Astwood’s family. We will then walk west along the roadside back to the parking lot at Southlands.
The purpose of this walk is to highlight the issues and unaddressed concerns that this development presents for neighbours, the Bermuda public and potential residents. Our goal is for further construction on the site to be suspended until:
a) the plans for the entire development are made readily available to the public,
b) a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is completed for the development (as per Environment Charter, 2001), and
c) there is a clear indication this housing is meeting a need.
A map of the walk and points of interest will be posted to the BEST website closer to the time [www.best.org.bm ].
Walkers should be prepared for rocky terrain and for getting your feet wet — wear sensible shoes.
No baby strollers, wheelchairs or pets.
No refreshments enroute; bring your own water.
(Note: the timing of the event is to take advantage of low tide and daylight hours.)
