Castlewood slips past ACE

Junior Lapointe hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to give Castlewood a 12 to 11 victory over the ACE Invaders. Castlewood scored 10 runs in the first inning as it took advantage of some communication problems in the ACE outfield. The big blow came on a Darren Green three-run homer.

Castlewood would then but shut down for most of the rest of the game with Denny penton (3-3) hitting a solo shot in the fourth. Shannon Gosse was also 3-3 for Castlewood.

ACE scored single runs in the first and third before plating eight batters in the fifth. Heath Kihn (1-3) hit a three-run homer for ACE while teammates Les Dziwenka (3-4) and Sam Peters (2-4, three runs) contributed in the close loss.

Tuff Dogs 13, White Mountain Re 2

Two runs in the fourth inning was all White Mountain could muster against Tuff Dogs in a 13 to 2 loss.

Cleanup hitter Steve O'Flynn led the Dogs with two homers and six RBI while coach Justin Barritt (4-4) was perfect at the plate. Leadoff hitter Hywel Brown 93-4) scored three times.

Janice Bucci (2-2) and Mark Waddington (2-3) scored White Mountain's two runs.

Island Construction 12, Killer Goldfish 2

Island Construction scored four times in the first and never looked back as they handily beat Killer Goldfish 12 to 2.

Adam Mannatal (1-3) hit a three-run homer for the winners while teammates Shay Furbert 92-3) and Ryan Calhoun (2-3) also had good games.

Alex Styche (3-3) hit a homer and scored both of the Goldfish runs. Darren Wakely was 2-3.

ACE 16, Renegades 13

ACE held onto a 16 to 13 victory against Renegades last Wednesday. ACE picked up nine runs in the third inning as Don Burgess (2-3) doubled home two runners. Heath Kihn (3-4) continued his hot hitting by hitting a homer. Sam Peters (2-3), Les Dziwenka (2-4, 2 RBI) and Mark Megaw (1-2, 2 RBI) helped ACE to the win.

Renegades got a solo shot by Tracey Bean (2-3) and 4 RBI from Santos Garcia (3-5). Dwayne Basden (2-3) also had a good night at the plate for Renegades.

SVOS 12, White Mountain 9

White Mountain Re looked like it was going to upset Sea venture when they jumped out to a 9-1 lead over Sea Venture, but ended up losing 12 to 9 as their bats grew cold.

Danny Cook (2-4) hit two homers to help spark the SVOS comeback. MacLaren Lowe (3-4) also homered for Sea Venture while team-mate Mark Herauf was 3-4 at the plate.

Chris Larkin (3-4) homered for White Mountain in the first inning as did Barry Mah (1-3). Mike Soares was 3-4 in the leadoff spot.

Castlewood 18, HSBC 9

Castlewood doubled up HSBC Bobcats 18 to 9 as Devin Millet (3-3) pounded two homers and knocked in seven runs. Team-mate Junior lapointe (3-4) also homered and had five RBI. Castlewood had 25 hits with Barry Griffiths (3-5), Wayne Newhook (5-5), Danny Penton (3-5) and Shannon Gosse (3-5) peppering the ball around the field.

Mike McFeters and Crystal page were both 2-3 for HSBC.

Ernst 19, Tuff Dogs 12

Ernst & Young Scored seven times in the first and never looked back in a 19 to 12 triumph over Tuff Dogs. Ernst's Kean Driscoll put on a hitting clinic as he was 5-5, hit two homers and collected six RBI. Jeff Jane added to his fine season with a 4-5 performance at the plate and also pounded out two homers. Mike Fox (4-5) and Art Palmer (3-6) contributed to the victory.

Kevin Taylor (5-5) and Justin Barritt (3-4) were Tuff Dogs' best hitters.

Correction

In last Friday's Sun it should have read that Sea Venture beat Tuff Dogs 14 to 13.[[In-content Ad]]
