'Captain Caveman' top choice in draft

Darren ‘Captain Caveman’ Green was the number one overall pick for the men’s softball draft held on Wednesday night at the Robin Hood Pub.

Green, known for his long-distance home run shots was the top choice of Jevanie ‘Smokey’ Fubler for the Blue Team.

Fubler said: “I chose him because he is so good at bat and has a good glove in some key positions needed on the field.”

Green is expected to anchor The Blue Team’s infield by playing first but can be moved to shortstop or centerfield if needed.

Fubler added Archer Hill was a steal in the eight round.

I believe Archer Hill will be my sleeper pick because he is young and energetic and I believe his bat will improve as the league goes on and his glove will help me in the position I need him for.”

Fubler said his team’s strength will be a solid batting lineup with no weak links from one to 10.

Paulo Arruda, Black team coach, picked slugging shortstop Terence Corday his first choice, the third overall in the draft.

Arruda said: “He’s one of the best players in the league.”

The Black Team coach was thrilled to get Gord Scharf in the ninth round as the newcomer to Bermuda softball has a wealth of experience from Canada.

Arruda’s team will kick off the men’s summer season with a 7pm game against the Grey at Michael Preece Stadium. Blue will battle the red at 8:30pm.
