Patrick Nisbett achieved the highest result for a Bermudian rider at the weekend, winning a Grand Prix class on the Sunshine Tour.

Nisbett and his grey gelding Cantaro 32 clinched the Grand Prix class in Spain at a height of 1 metre, 60 cm, with two clear rounds.

Nisbett came first in the jump-off, beating the second and third place finishers by more than two seconds.

Michael Cherry, president of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation, said: “The best result ever by a Bermuda rider in equestrian show jumping was seen on Sunday in Spain. In a class of 45 starters, among whom were some of the top European riders — many of whom compete for their respective countries on a regular basis — there were 13 clear rounds in the first round.

“All of these went through to the jump-off. Of those, five got eight faults, four got four faults, one got three faults, and of the three who went clear, Patrick and Cantaro had the fastest time.”

Nisbett represented Bermuda at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky last October. He has achieved the capability standard to represent Bermuda at the Pan American Games in Mexico in October.
