Cann blitz inspires rampant Bermuda to easy win

Lionel Cann smashed a savage century, blasting an amazing five sixes in the final over, to propel Bermuda to a 107-run win over Argentina and put them in poll position to win the ICC Americas' tournament.

Cann brought up the milestone in just 59 balls, dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground in an innings of 139 not out that thrilled all who witnessed it.

Patient Kwame Tucker dropped anchor at the other end carrying his bat through the innings, with an impressive knock of 101 not out - the best score by a Bermudian opener in recent memory.

Cann, who may miss today's clash with Cayman with a back strain, said it was one of the most satisfying innings of his career.

"I had a lot of fun out there. It's great to score a hundred for your country. This was my first one, so it was very special."

He said the hard work had been done by Kwame Tucker and Janeiro Tucker (79) by the time he came to the crease.

The pair gave the innings a solid base after the early loss of Stephen Outerbridge before Cann's blitz helped Bermuda post a massive 371 for 3.

Argentina managed 264 for 5 in their 50 overs with all the bowlers, including 16-year-old Malachi Jones who picked up his first international wicket, chipping in.

The win leaves Bermuda at the top of the pile in the ICC Americas' World Cricket League Division One.

Victories against Cayman and the USA in their remaining fixtures would see them crowned regional champions.[[In-content Ad]]
