By-election scheduled for December 15
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8: The Parliamentary Registry Office (PRO) has advised that the Premier, the Hon. Paula A. Cox, JP, MP, has called a Bye-Election for Constituency 26 / Warwick South Central on Wednesday December 15, 2010.
The vacancy in Constituency 26 is as a result of the resignation of Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown, JP, MP, former Premier and Minister of Tourism and Transport.
Today Parliamentary Registrar, Randy Scott is advising all eligible voters in Constituency 26, that there is a seven (7) day open registration period beginning tomorrow, Tuesday November 9, 2010, ending November 15, 2010.
Mr. Scott encouraged individuals who may have changed their registration details since the December 18, 2007 General Election to visit the PRO or their online website, www.elections.gov.bm to update their information.
Mr. Scott said, “If eligible voters have changed their name or address since the 2007 General Election, and have not registered their changes with us, they may be challenged at the polling station. It is important for those individuals who reside in Constituency 26 to check the current Parliamentary Register to ensure that they and their family are correctly registered.”
To amend registration details, or to register for the first time, either visit the website or pick up a registration form from the PRO, Valerie T. Scott Building on Reid Street. Alternatively, forms can be collected from any Post Office or Police Station.
Mr. Scott said to be eligible to register individuals must be 18 years or older, Bermudian by birth or status and ordinarily a resident in Bermuda (or a non-Bermudian Commonwealth citizen who was registered to vote on May 1st, 1976.
He also pointed out that no registrations or amendments will be accepted after the 5.00 p.m. deadline on Monday, November 15, 2010.
During the lead up to the December 15, Bye - Election, Mr. Scott said regular advisories would be issued, including dates regarding Nomination Day and Advanced Poll Voting.
