THURSDAY, AUGUST 2: Roy Burch had the swim of his life in the Olympics today, calling it 'amazing'.

Burch set a new Bermuda national record in the 50m free, clocking 22:47.

He won his heat, the fourth of eight, but failed to advance to semi-finals at the Olympics.

With four heats of faster swimmers still left to take the pool, it was unlikely Burch would advance to the semis, however, he did finish 24th overall, nine spots higher than he was seeded.

His Facebook page was flooded with congratulations on his fantastic performance for setting the new Bermuda record.

Burch said on his Facebook page: "I want to thank everyone for all the support. It was absolutely amazing. Can't describe the feeling. So close to getting a second swim but it's hard to do better than your best."

The swimmer hinted he may mount a campaign for a third Olympics when he posted "Rio?", the site for the 2016 Olympics.
