Rising star Christopher Rego teamed up with Stephan Cooper to win the 14 and under boys doubles title at the recent ITF COTEC Junior Tennis Tournament in Bahamas.
The local pair defeated Bahamas’ Chris Cargill and Treajh Ferguson 6-2, 6-4 in the final to claim bragging rights.
Rego also finished runner up in the 14 and under boys singles after losing to Cargill 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the final, while compatriot James Finnagin won the Under 14 boys singles consolation final after getting past Victor Gurevich 6-2, 6-0.
Bermuda, however, did not fare as well in the 18 and under division as both Dandre Outerbridge and Ethan Rogers failed to advance from the qualifying stage.
Also representing the island in Bahamas was Adam Turner.
Commenting on his players’ performances, coach Brent Smith said: “They played very well and I am very happy with their work ethic during the whole week as well as their play on the court.”
He added: “It was very hot and the matches started early and so they had toget a good meal to get started and then once we got on the court they had to produce —and they did.”
