THURSDAY, JULY 5: I am very pleased this afternoon to announce that His Excellency the Governor, Mr. George Fergusson, has approved the recommendation from the Public Service Commission (PSC) for the promotion of three of our senior police officers.

The approval follows my submission to the PSC that was based on each officer’s successful performance in a promotion process that was held earlier this year.

Each officer has their own list of training and experience – both here in Bermuda and overseas – but one thing they have in common is that they are all graduates of the International Commanders Programme held by the Police Staff College at Bramshill in the United Kingdom.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels is a Bermudian officer who joined as a police cadet and has 27 years of service. He has had a long and distinguished career as a detective and he has worked mainly within the investigative fields of CID, drugs and serious crime.

His most recent posting was as the Superintendent in charge of the Serious Crime Division. Mr. Daniels’ promotion to Assistant Commissioner carries the responsibility for Serious Crime and his remit includes serious crime investigations, intelligence, drugs, financial crime, police firearms response, public order and antisocial behaviour.

Superintendent Darrin Simons is a Bermudian officer who joined us 18 years ago. He has held a variety of posts throughout the uniformed side of the BPS including St. George’s Police Station, Crime Prevention, Training, the Police Support Unit and as a Community Beat Officer.

More recently he was the Inspector for the Forensic Support Unit and the Chief Inspector for the Intelligence Department. With his promotion Mr. Simons will add drugs and financial crime to the intelligence remit that he currently holds by taking over command of the Drugs and Intelligence Division.

Superintendent Sean Field-Lament is a Bermudian officer in his 27th year of service. He has had a long and distinguished career as a detective that started with an early posting to the Narcotics Division as a young constable.

He has held a variety of supervisory and management posts throughout the Service including in uniform, CID, training and the police firearms team. His most recent posting was as the Chief Inspector in charge of drugs and financial crime.

Mr. Field-Lament will take command of the Support Services Division with responsibility for marine and roads policing, communications, administration, recruiting, training and development.
