By James [email protected] | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

Bermuda win by 9 wickets

Hemp brings up the win with a characteristic cover drive for four.

A comprehensive victory for Bermuda.

Hemp finishes on 76 not out, Outerbridge unbeaten on 33.

Great stuff for Bermuda today. They are back to life in this tournament.

36 overs. Bermuda 150 for 1. Target 158

An assured and confident display from Hemp and Bermuda today.

They're up against what is considered, on paper, the worst team in the group but they're on their way to a big win.

Morale and just as importantly run-rate will be boosted by this comprehensive win.

35 overs. Bermuda 144 for 1. Target 158

Outerbridge picks up three from an inside edge as Bermuda continue to inch towards a much needed win.

14 required now - less than one per over for anyone who's still counting.

This game is over.

34 overs. Bermuda 136 for 1. Target 158

Hemp 62, Outerbridge 24

Hemp's cracking along now. He late cuts for four, then drives for a single.

He looks determined to stay there till the end and finish the job.

33 overs. Bermuda 130 for 1. Target 158

Hemp brings up his fifty with a quickly taken single. Excellent knock from the former Glamorgan skipper and a good tactical move to push him up the order.

All the tacical changes have paid off today for Bermuda. Hemp as opener, Crockwell in for Edness and Robinson with the ball have all been influential.

hemp only half-raises his bat to acknowledge the 50 then it;s back to business.

31 overs. Bermuda 118 for 1. Target 158

Hemp 49, Outerbridge 18

Hemp moves to within a shot of his fifty, cracking four more through the covers. 40 to win.

30 overs. Bermuda 113 for 1. Target 158

Hemp 45, Outerbridge 17

It's surely only a matter of time now. Bermuda are on course for thier fist victory in this tournamen and it has been comprehensive.

29 overs. Bermuda 109 for 1. Target 158

Outerbridge is in good nick. He's keen to get the job finished. He drives through the leg side for four. A couple more singles and a well-run two in that over as Bda close in on the win.

28 overs. Bermuda 101 for 1. Target 158

The hundred is up with another sumptuous cover drive from the classy Outerbridge.

27 overs. Bermuda 97 for 1. Target 158

Hemp 38, Outerbridge 7

Outerbridge is promoted up the order to 3 with Blakeney suffering from a sore finger sustained in the field.

Outerbridge is immediately into his stride, driving down the ground for four. It still looks good for Bermuda right now. Two steady, sensible batsmen at the crease and 60 needed for victory.

Wicket! Bermuda 82 for 1 after 24 overs

Crockwell is caught in the covers. He cracked a full blooded shot in the air and it's well taken by the fielder.

He's out for 36 from 83 deliveries. He's batted well and given Bermuda the platform they need to go on and win this game.

22 overs. Bermuda 78 for 0. Target 158

Its spin from both ends now and, as has been the case throughout the tournament, scoring is tough.

The slow bowlers - mostly bowling with control rather than any great turn or flight - are tough to play against.

Crockwell breaks the stranglehold with a couple of wristy flicks through the leg side.

20 overs. Bermuda 71 for 0. Target 158

Hemp 29, Crockwell 29

Hemp cover drives for three.

This is the best opening stand in a game of this magnitude that I can remember.

Cool heads, so faar, from these two.

The Danes have turned to spin in search of a wicket, but Hemp and Crockwell are looking very assured.

Bermuda are in control at the 20-over mark in the run chase. Can these two batsmen finish the job?

18 overs. Bermuda 64 for 0. Target 158

Hemp 25, Crockwell 25

A slow period, but that's alright for Bermuda. These two are milking the bowling, rotating the strike and playig good sensible cricket.

16 overs. Bermuda 60 for 0. Target 158

By far Bermuda's best start of the tournament.

Less than 100 needed to win now.

14 overs. Bermuda 54 for 0. Target 158

Six more for Crockwell - just clearing the ropes by a fraction with a lofted shot off his pads.

13 overs. Bermuda 47 for 0. Target 158

Hemp 23, Crockwell 13

Excellent start for Bermuda. Crockwell looks in good nick - neat and compact at the crease.

He picks up four with a cracking off-drive as the openers begin to take control.

11 overs. Bermuda 39 for 0. Target 158

Hemp smashes a huge six into the tress on the leg-side boundary.

This looks like a much more natural opening partnership.

The pinch hitter tactic with Cann up top has it's merits, but the traditional measured start looks to be a more effective ploy for Bermuda right now, with two accumalators at the top of the order.

The 'ball-beaters' may be required later on.

10 overs. Bermuda 31 for 0. Target 158

Hemp cracks an uppish cover drive for four in the ninth over and then picks it up in the tenth with a straight drive down the ground for another boundary. These two look fairly comfortable at the moment.

Crockwell survived one big lbw shout but other than that there's not been much joy for the Danes.

It's slow going for Bermuda but that's alright. Hemp is starting to hit his stride and looks very much at home in the openers role.

7 overs. Bermuda 15 for 0. Target 158

Just ones and twos as Bermuda try to see out these opening bowlers.

the pitch is not playing as quick as it did earlier today and should be a reasonable surface to bat on.

5 overs. Bermuda 13 for 0. Target 158

Cautious start from Hemp and Crockwell. They don't need to do anything spectacular, just be patient and don't give their wickets away.

3 overs. Bermuda 10 for 0. Target 158

This guy Hansen looks sharp, and accurate. The quality of the opening bowlers at this tournament has been very good. lack of depth in that department is a big weakness for bermuda right now and things might be about to get tougher. O'Brien came off injured in the field and could well be out for Monday.

2 overs. Bermuda 6 for 0. Target 158

Crockwell gets things in motion with a well-timed cut through the off-side that whistles to the boundary for four runs.

Of the Danish opening bowlers, Henrik Hansen looks very sharp, David Brochersen from the other end is not quite as quick.

Crockwell plays and misses at a couple, hemp has yet to dace.

Lunch

Trott finished with figures of 4 for 30 from ten, Tucker 3 for 29 from ten. Denmark's top scorer was Bobby Chawla with 24.

Hemp and Crockwell will open for Bermuda as Cann drops down the order.

Run-rate could ultimately be crucial in deciding who qualifies from this group if several teams, including Bermuda, end up tied on one win. They could help their cause today by knocking this total off quickly, but right now, most fans would settle for any kind of win to get Bermuda on the board in this tournament.

Denmark all out for 157!

Romaine clean bowls Henrik Hansen, for a valuable 20, to complete a much improved morning for Bermuda.

Sparked first of all by the lively pace bowling of jacobi Robinson, who took two crucial wickets in a fiery opening spell, and then by the controlled seam bowling of Tucker and the spin of Trott, who emerged as the real star of the day with four wickets.

It's a low, low total. The Danes weren't too classy. It's worth remembering, though, that they made 243 against the Netherlands yesterday, so credit to Bermuda for restricting them to such a low target.

It's not over yet, though, but at least Bermuda can play with a little less pressure as they chase 158 for victory.

48 overs: Denmark 155 for 9

The injured batsman Tommy Hansen is back in. But he can hardly move.

He has a runner but can't really even move his feet to play a stroke.

Wicket! Denmark 151 for 9

Stephen Outerbridge takes a neat catch running in from the mid-wicket boundary to give Trott his fourth wicket.

He could have had five. Blakeney put one down in the covers earlier in that over.He seems to have injured himself in the process and comes off the filed nursing a sore finger.

Blakeney drops one in the covers and then comes

46 overs: Denmark 150 for 8

11 from that over as the Danes finally start swinging. Plenty of those came off the edge but that will be no consolation to irving Romaine.

45 overs: Denmark 139 for 8

Trott and Romaine are keeping the locks on.

These tailenders are just poking and prodding, trying to squeeze a few more runs out of this innings.

Wicket! Denmark 136 for 8 after 43 overs

Borchersen swats a slog-shot right down the throat of Cann on the boundary and trott claims his third wicket of the day.

the young spinner has had a good tournament..

He's kept it tidy today and the pressure has told on the Danish batsmen.

42 overs: Denmark 136 for 7

Those wickets have reinvigorated Bermuda and they're looking a little sharper in the field.

Romaine and Trott are bowling in tandem - keeping the pressure on.

Hansen breaks the deadlock with a cover drive for four but the Danes are struggling to accelerate.

41 overs! Denmark 132 for 7 after 41

Henrik Hansen (a different Hansen to the one that retired hurt) escapes after top edging a sweep shot in the air. It falls safe, though, and he survives.

Wicket! Denmark 129 for 7 after 39

We're cooking now. Trott traps danger man Chawla lbw for 24. That's two wickets in two overs for Trott. With Hansen injured it's effectively 8 down, unless he's fit to come back and have another crack.

Wicket! Denmark 126 for 6 after 37

Trott traps Hedeggard lbw for 10.

Bermuda need to close out this innings now. If they can get them all out for less than 150 it SHOULD be a fromality.

36 overs: Denmark 122 for 5

Crucial stage in the game as Denmark attempt to salvage this innings.

They're making a good fist of it and a target of 200 no longer looks out of the question.

33 overs: Denmark 111 for 5

A good little spell for Denmark. Bobby Chawla and Tommy Hansen are playing solid and sensible stuff, trying to take their team to a respectable total.

On the evidence of this tournament so far anything over 180 would be tough for Bermuda to chase.

As I write that Hansen pulls up injured going for a quick isngle and he's off - retired hurt.

He's one of the Danes' most dangerous bowlers so that could be significant.

Bermuda are bowling steady but not asserting enough pressure in the field. Easy singles are on offer and the Danes are taking them.

Wicket! Denmark 68 for 5 after 21 overs

And it's Tucker again. Overgaard is out lbw.

Tucker's medium pace, wicket-to-wicket swing is proving too tough for the Danes.

Bermuda, for the first time in this tournament, are in the ascendancy.

There's life in this team yet.

Wicket! Denmark 65 for 4 after 19 overs

Tucker strikes again. A soft dismissal from the batsman's point of view, but we'll take it.

Carsten Pedersonm who had started to move Denmark back into contention, lofts a meek on-drive into the hands of Lionel Cann.

Leverock comes into the attack from the other end now as Bermuda go in for the kill.

It's not all good news though. George O'Brien has limped off after pulling up in injured during a fiery, but wayward, spell.

Wicket! Wicket! Denmark 33 for 3 after 10 overs

Robinson strikes twice in the 10th over of the day and Bermuda are off to a flying start.

First he bowls danger man Klokker, who plays on to his own stumps, then he traps the new batsman lbw for a duck.

Robinson is 2 for 17 in his first five overs and looks sharp. He's bowling with genuine pace and agression and Bermuda are well on top.

Let's hope they can make the most of this start.

Wicket!: Denmark 33 for 1 after 8.3 overs

Janeiro Tucker strikes in his first over trapping drawing the edge.

Crockwell, standing up to the seamer, takes a neat catch. Bermuda are in business after what had been a relatively quiet start. Denmark had looked fairly comfortable to that point, though they were finding runs hard to come by.

O'Brien and Robinson opened and both bowled with genuine pace and fire. The Danes are playing cautiously.

Pre-amble It's time for heroes. Bermuda are back to the wall after two straight losses and a win against the group minnows Denmark today is an absolute must.

There's a couple of changes to the starting eleven.

Jacobi Robinson is in for Stefan Kelly, who struggled to find his form in the opening games, and Fiqre Crockwell replaces Jekon Edness as wicket-keeper batsman.

We're hearing also that Lionel Cann will drop down the batting order.

Bermuda win the toss and decide to field. Game on.[[In-content Ad]]
