Bermuda to play Scotland here?
Cricket team could finally get long awaited home match
Sources confirmed yesterday that the Scots had provisionally agreed to switch the four-day Intercontinental Cup clash with Bermuda from Canada to the National Sports Centre.
Whether the game comes off or not depends on the ability of new sports minister El James to deliver where his predecessors have failed - and get the NSC approved as an official international venue.
Privately, Government insiders believe that the pitch and the stadium will be ready, with a compromise solution to the troublesome issue of imported soil apparently reached.
An announcement is supposedly in the offing over the next few weeks.
But Government ministers, including Premier Dr. Ewart Brown, have made promises about the pitch before, deadlines have passed and Bermuda has still not played any home matches since qualifying for the World Cup.
National team all-rounder Lionel Cann said the players - particularly those who had been involved with the set up for a long time - were desperate for a home game.
And he welcomed the news that Scotland could be coming here.
"If that happens that's great. That would be our first time playing at home in I don't know how long.
"Scotland would bring high quality cricket and it would be excellent for us to showcase our talent. That's something we all want. We've been touring so much over the past few years we would love to be able to play in front of our friends and family at home in Bermuda.
"I don't want to build myself up about it because there's been so much said in the past, but if it does materialize, I'll be very, very excited."[[In-content Ad]]
