FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2: The YMCA is to be drafted in to help Government provide youth development programmes on the island.
The YMCA is to team up with the Ministry of Youth, Family and Sports to create “turnkey” schemes to help youngsters.
Youth, Family and Sports Minister Glenn Blakeney said: “Government believes such programmes have great potential to help Bermudian youth develop strong leadership qualities and enhanced life skills that make them become productive members of our community.”
He added: “A facility has been identified for the YMCA programming.”
Earlier, delivering the Throne Speech on behalf of Government, Governor George Fergusson said that Government would continue to back the Mirrors programme for teenagers.
Mr Fergusson said: “Your Government considers that the best way to keep youth out of trouble is to give them something constructive to do, something to love.
“The Ministry of Youth, Families and Sports will continue the Mirrors programme to serve the needs of youth aged 15-18 by challenging them to achieve productive outcomes that are free from gang activity and anti-social behaviour through its community training sessions.”
