THURSDAY, APRIL 14: Bermuda’s fall from grace in the cricketing world continued today as they were relegated to Division 3 after losing to UAE by 43 runs.
It was just four years ago Bermuda were rubbing shoulders with the cricket elite at the World Cup, but now the island’s best cricketers will be testing their mettle against the likes of Italy and Oman in the next World Cricket League cycle.
Bermuda finished fifth in the table with a record of 1-4, tied with Hong Kong and Uganda, but were relegated alongside Uganda based on net run rate.
UAE batted first and put up 257 runs in their 50 overs.
Irving Romaine was the pick of the Bermuda bowlers in claiming six wickets for 37 runs in his six overs.
Rodney Trott was 3 for 42 in his 10 overs and Delyone Borden took the other wicket.
Opening batsman Dion Stovell followed up Tuesday’s 73 with 77 today off of 94 balls and had a third wicket partnership with David Hemp for 73 runs when he was out LBW.
Hemp added 39 runs to Bermuda’s score but no other batsman could muster more than 18.
Bermuda will play Uganda for fifth place tomorrow in Dubai.
