Bermuda loses to Canada

FRIDAY, MARCH 16: Bermuda's chances of qualifying for the World Twenty20 cricket tournament were shattered Friday morning when the island lost to Canada by 72 runs.

Canada batted first and put up a total of 175 runs.

Dion Stovell once again did a good job bowling restricting Canada to 15 runs and taking two wickets while Rodney Trott was also superb in claiming two wickets for 14 runs.

But young bowlers Kamau Leverock and Joshua Gilbert proved to be expensive as Leverock gve up 38 runs and Gilbert 40 in their three overs.

Always under the gun when they came into bat, Bermuda’s required run rate kept growing after each over. Opener Stovell fell cheaply in the first over before David Hemp and Lionel Cann did put some runs on the board but were unable to chip away at the run rate.

Cann was the top batsman with 33 runs. Hemp (17) and Terryn Fray (16) and Justin Picher (12) all reached double figures.

Bermuda are now 0-4 and still have Group games against Nepal, Papua New Guinea and Afghanistan.
