Bermuda lining up Namibia for one day series
The success of last weekend's four-day clash against Scotland has opened up the door for more international matches to be played at the stadium.
And pending a favourable report from the ICC, which had a representative at the match, the series against the Africans, who are undefeated in the Intercontinental Cup, will take place in the first week of September.
The fact that Namibia do not currently have one-day-international status means that the pitch would not have to meet the rigorous criteria set down by the ICC in order to host a one-day-series.
Bermuda Cricket Board chief executive Neil Speight said the board was 'quietly confident' that the series would go ahead.
"One major plus for us is that Namibia are not in the top six and we've already invited them to explore the possibility of playing some one-day matches while they were over here."
He said the Namibians were keen to play some 50-over games - if the pitch gets the go ahead to host the four-day match.
Whether or not the tour goes ahead depends on the reports from Bermuda and Scotland's management and the ICC's pitch inspector Austin Ward on the weekend's game.
The BCB will have been encouraged by the words of the Scotland manager who said after the game 'it's time to stop talking about the pitch and start talking about cricket' and also of coach Peter Steindl who said it was a pleasure to play here.
And Speight said he saw nothing over the four days to suggest that the NSC was not an appropriate venue for Intercontinental Cup cricket.
"There were a lot of runs in the fourth innings, good carry through to the keeper, it turned from day one, but that is just one of the qualities of the pitch. Pitches are different all over the world.
"The batsmen that applied themselves got runs and there was plenty in it for the bowlers."
Speight said he had been in constant communication with the Namibians and they were keen to come here.
"We wouldn't invite them to come here if we didn't think the pitch was appropriate and we have every confidence that it is going to be sanctioned by the ICC.
"Hopefully we will have more notice this time so we can make sure there are no scheduling conflicts and get a big crowd out at the stadium."
He said a decision was expected within the next couple of weeks.[[In-content Ad]]
