THURSDAY, APRIL 26: Bermuda beat Brazil by seven wickets yesterday to claim its first win at the ICC Americas Women’s Twenty20 Championship in the Cayman Islands.

At Smith Road Oval, the bottom of the table clash saw Brazil win the toss and elect to bat.

The Brazilians posted their best total thus far in the tournament, with four players reaching double figures. Ana Vicentin (22), Karina Lagoa (21), Erika Reinehr (14) and Juliana Brito (12) to finish 83/4 from 20 overs.

Precious Smith was 16 for 1 in her four overs while Rickelle Smith was 20 for 1.

In reply, Bermuda got off to a slow start with openers Reuna Richardson and captain Terry Lynn Paynter back in the pavilion with four runs each.

An unbeaten stand from Brittney Marshall (40*) and Rickelle Smith (12*) helped steer Bermuda to victory.

Bermuda were also gifted 26 wides from the Brazilian bowler.

Marshall was the Player of the Match.

Bermuda lost its previous matches to Canada and Argentina and have yet to play the US and hosts Cayman.
