BCB wins ICC development award
The development programme accolade singles out Bermuda as the best in the Americas in terms of its overall structure.
The award - which takes into account domestic structure and opportunities for youth and female cricketers as well as the national programme - comes at a time when Bermuda has three teams about to compete across the globe.
The Under-19s are heading to India and Malaysia for the Youth World Cup, the women are on their way to South Africa for the female World Cup qualifiers and the senior team is heading to Jamaica and Antigua for the Stanford 20-20 tournament,
Bermuda also scooped an award for 'best photo' with IslandStats' Earl Basden's submission of two young cricketers in action in the youth leagues being hailed as a snap that captured the 'essence of cricket development.'
A third award was given to the BCB for 'The Best Spirit of Cricket Award in Partnership with UNAIDS and UNICEF'. That accolade came for partnering with BELCO to raise $1,000 in gate-receipts and donations from the BELCO Cup in aid of Bermudian Aids charity, STAR.
President of the BCB, Reginald Pearman said: "I am extremely pleased to note that the Board's efforts have been recognised by receiving a record three out of eight ICC Regional Development Awards for 2007.
"All facets of our strategic and development plan were advanced and these awards reflect this progress. I am particularly proud to win the "Best Overall Cricket Development Programme" for the second time in three years."[[In-content Ad]]
