Number seven seed, Alexander Cooper, started well against number two seed, Julien Pinot, in the Men’s Open Singles by taking the first set 6-4, however his game started to suffer from unforced errors as Pinot gained his composure approaching the net and ending the points early. Pinot took the next two sets and the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Pinot next meets number three seed, David Jenkins, in the semi-finals.
Top seed in the same event, Jenson Bascome, rarely dropped a point against number six seed, Youcef Moulla. Bascome now takes on number four seed MacKenzie Bean in the semi-finals. Bean had a tough semi-final against Lincoln Wahl, but held on to with the three setter 5-7, 6-1, 6-0.
In the Women’s Open Singles number three seed, Janet Grainger, ousted unseeded but quite talented, Morgan Lightbourne (6-2, 6-1).
In the Men’s 45 Singles playoff, Earl Leader defeated Wilf Gonsalves (6-4, 6-2). The over 45 singles are always a treat to watch as pace is not necessarily the main goal but tactics, such as drop shots and lobs, and good placement keep the points sometimes longer than regular matches but much more interesting. n
