FRIDAY, JANUARY 4: New Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley yesterday paid his first official visit to the HQ of the Bermuda Regiment.

Mr Dunkley, with Permanent Secretary Mark Telemaque, a former senior Regiment officer, met Commanding Officer Lt Col Brian Gonsalves, senior officers and members of the permanent staff before touring Warwick Camp.

Lt Col. Gonsalves said: “It was a good opportunity to brief the Minister on operations and current Regimental matters.

“It was also an ideal opportunity for him to meet and get to know the full-time staff, who are the core of the Regiment.

“Mr Dunkley was very interested in developments at the Regiment.  We are pleased that he has paid us a visit so early and shows that we remain high on the agenda.

“We are all looking forward to working closely with the new Minister, as well as our other partners, to help maintain the safety and security of our Island home.”

Lt Col. Gonsalves said: “The Regiment doesn’t stand still — we are constantly evolving and improving so we can better face the challenges of the future, whether it be maritime, public order duties or disaster relief.”

The Bermuda Regiment is looking for volunteers for a variety of roles. A Regiment career offers recruits opportunities to travel, acquire skills useful in civilian life, test themselves to their limits and competitive rates of pay.
