A united people can bring about 'miraculous' change

Have you ever watched an orchestra director? He stands in front of different types of musical instruments that have their own distinct sound.

The beautiful thing about the conductor is that he is able to bring all of the different musical instruments into harmony. That is, the musical director has an obligation to bring about a sound of oneness or unity.

Joshua 6:20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

As we look at Joshua chapter 6, we can picture the leader, Joshua, as the conductor of God's people. Joshua had the responsibility to bring together persons from different tribes and of different characters and abilities, so that they could walk and then shout in unity.

The path of a leader is an interesting one, as the leader of any people must be sure to always lead according to the instructions of the ultimate leader, God.

In verse 3, God gave Joshua the great news informing him that He (God) had given Joshua and the people the land. Now it would be easy to leave it there, but the fact is that God then informed Joshua how to take the city.

There are many blessings that God has for you. However, there is a method by which you will obtain the blessing. Ultimately, every blessing will follow an individual being obedient to God.

Joshua was leading a multitude of people. Can you imagine the task of trying to get everyone on the same page?

Rather than God allowing Joshua to speak to everyone about how to walk around the walls of Jericho, God told Joshua to speak to the men of war, the priests carrying horns, the priests carrying The Ark of the Covenant, and a final displacement of fighters.

God trained men of different mentalities to walk in silence.

Why silence? I believe that God had to retrain the ones who were used to directing others and God wanted to bring each of the different groups to a place where the only voice they were listening out for was Joshua's voice.

In a time of war or in a time of critical movements, it is so important that there is only one leader.

Two leaders would most likely deliver two different mandates for the people, and that would produce confusion. Let's face it, when there are Jericho walls that must come down, there is no time for mixed signals and unclear pathways.

With a united walk along the same pathway and with all persons listening for the next set of directions, the results were just as God had said it would be. God said that the walls would fall and that is what happened. Because Joshua was able to get the people on one accord, the results were miraculous.

Whether you are looking at a Bible account, a company, a sport's team, or a church congregation, the philosophy is the same.

A united people can be used to bring about miracles. A united people can cause walls to come down. A united people can do just about anything.

Before Joshua could enjoy the fragranced city of Jericho he had to deal with a giant wall.

Indeed before you can enjoy the blessings God has in store for you, you too must deal with giant walls first. Allow God to conduct your life, bringing about a harmony that will result in a beautiful sound. Respice finem.[[In-content Ad]]
