1,400 people sign petition against bus strike in one day
FRIDAY, AUGUST 19: An online petition against the bus strike has been launched after a challenge by Bermuda Industrial Union chief Chris Furbert.
Announcing the strike would continue on Thursday, Mr Furbert questioned whether the majority of Bermudians were against the strike.
He spoke out at a mass meeting of bus staff at the BIU’s Hamilton headquarters.
Mr Furbert said: “Unless you talk to all Bermudians you cannot say the majority of the public is against the strike.
“Unless you can tell me that 35,000 Bermudians are against the strike, you can’t say the majority. I am not taking that.”
Now the petition – August 2011 – Bermudians Against BIU Strike Action – has been launched with the aim of gathering 35,000 signatures.
But the site has some way to go — 1,400 people had signed up by this afternoon.
