Exclusive: We bring the cup final to Nahki’s home club

The Bermuda Sun today teamed up with a big-hearted retailer to bring the Wembley cup final to Nahki Wells’s former home club.

We had reported yesterday that the club’s TV was broken and that its members would have to go elsewhere to watch their former star play for Bradford City in tomorrow’s Capital One Cup final.

We told M&M International’s general manager Donnie Correia about the broken TV and asked if he could help out. He didn’t hesitate.

This morning his team went to the Western Stars club on St John’s Road and hooked up a 64-inch Samsung TV.

Mr Correia told us that M&M was more than happy to help out as this is such big event for the club: “We realized that right now, in these economic times that the club couldn’t afford to buy a new one, so we have helped them out by lending them a TV and allowing them to watch their player on Sunday.

“We appreciate that the community comes in and spends their money in our store so this a way to give back to the community and our customers. We don’t mind helping out where we can.”

Wayne Campbell, president of Western Stars Sports Club, told the Bermuda Sun “This means a lot because a lot of people are interested in this game, not only because of Nahki, but for Bradford itself.

“A lot of people are interested and they want to watch it at the club where he came from. Hopefully, tomorrow we will have a decent crowd out.”

On Friday, Mr Campbell paid a visit to Mr Correia at his Church Street store, after the Sun told him that we had approached the retailer for help.

Mr Campbell said: “I went to him personally and shook his hand and said ‘thank you’ because we would not have been fortunate enough to watch the game at our own club.”

Luckily the Dandy Town Hornets (Nahki Well’s former team), based out of Western Stars, play this evening against Flanagan’s Onions instead of Sunday afternoon so they’ll be able to enjoy the Wembley final.

Mr Campbell said: “When the players come down this evening we’ll inform them they can come and watch Nahki at the club and enjoy it as a team together because they played with him.”
