David Barbosa has moved into a tie atop the standings of karting’s TAG Class after he won a race and finished second in two others in Sunday’s racing.
Barbosa started the day at the Bermuda Motorsports Park behind leader Scott Barnes. After Barnes won the first race, it looked like it was business as usual for the class.
But the next heat saw Barbosa finish on top, and Barnes was fourth after both Stephen Corrado and Patrick Ingham finished second and third respectively.
The third heat, which is worth double points, saw Corrado take his turn on top of the podium with Barbosa second and Bermuda Karting Club president Jason ‘Skuzzie’ North third. Ingham slipped into fourth, pushing Barnes all the way down to fifth.
Both Barnes and Barbosa now have 599 points with seven race days left. Teen drivers Corrado and Al Seymour Jr are third and fourth on 527 and 440 points.
The 125cc Shifter Class saw Barnes completely shut out of the victory circle as Shannon Caisey swept to three firsts. Corrado had two of the thirds while Devon Durrant had the other third to go along with his two fourths.
Barnes still has a commanding 90-point advantage over Corrado for the overall title with Caisey much further back.
It was the Ryan Lopes and Corey Lewis show in the Junior Stock Clone Class for 10 to 15-year-olds. Lopes won the first two heats but Lewis took the double-points race so they both earned 74 points for their efforts.
Zavier Smith went unchallenged n the Junior Modified Clone Class for 10 to 15 year olds.
