St George's Parish Council has praised the work of a police officer who has helped organize a community programme to feed families in the run-up to the New Year.
Police Community Action Officer Terry Paynter has been the driving force behind the initiative to host a free dinner for the residents at Gulfstream and Emergency Housing at Southside, St. David’s.
The event will take place on December 29 from 4pm to 6pm at the Open Doors Christian Fellowship Church Hall on Tommy Fox Road St. David’s.
The initiative is the brainchild of PC Paynter who contacted Renee Ming of the St. George Parish Council.
As a result the council agreed to sponsor the initiative and raised the funds for it by doing two sponsored Trash-a-thons to pick up rubbish from around the East End in November.
A statement on behalf of the parish council said: "We would like to thank P.C. Terry Paynter for her efforts as well as Keep Bermuda Beautiful for facilitating the events that made all this possible.
"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our suppliers for the food: B.G.A., Butterfield & Vallis, Market Place and Price Rite."
