WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 11AM: Tonight the Bermuda Sun news team will show off its video chops with a Year-in-Review programme airing on ZBM-TV 9 at 8pm.
It’s the first time in the newspaper’s 50-year history it has produced a television programme specifically for air on local broadcast TV.
Over the past two years the Bermuda Sun has increased video news coverage on its website, bermudasun.bm. Sun-produced video has also appeared on Bermuda Sports Network’s local cable access channel.
Last year BSN aired a Bermuda Sun Year-in-Review programme that proved very popular with viewers on cable and online. VSB TV also aired part of the 2012 Year-in-Review on its television news.
The 2013 version is 15 minutes long — with twice as much content as the last one — and will include a presenter, another change from last year. Bermuda Sun reporter Mikaela Ian Pearman will present the programme in four segments, one for each quarter of the year.
The script was written by Glenn Jones, a former television journalist who is now General Manager for MediaHouse, the parent company of the Bermuda Sun. The script was edited by the Sun's Editor-in-Chief Tony McWilliam and the programme was pieced together by Sun Photo & Video Editor Gary Foster Skelton.
Big stories of every category from 2013 will be covered including sports, crime, politics and tourism. The programme will also touch on some of the most popular Bermuda Sun projects and promotions from the past year.
After the programme premieres on ZBM this evening (December 18) it can be seen anytime on the Bermuda Sun website, beginning tomorrow.
Bermuda Air Conditioning, CellOne, Gatorade and Bermuda Cablevision sponsored the Bermuda Sun Video Year-in-Review. A print edition of the Year-in-Review will publish December 31, 2013.
