The Eliza Dolittle Society’s Daily Bread programme has cause for celebration this Christmas, after receiving a gift donation of six computers.

The gifts of two desktop computers and four laptops were given following a break-in that took place in October this year. Burglars came in through a window of the charity’s food bank during their tag day and cleaned out the establishment of all computers. “It was a real challenge,” recalls Terry Battersbee, Operations Manager of the Daily Bread food programme. “Without our computers, we couldn’t access our emails or look up contacts of donors and suppliers. I couldn’t even type up my schedules for the drivers, to let them know where to go for their food deliveries.

“Thankfully, the articles we put out with the Bermuda Sun and the Royal Gazette, really helped bring attention to
our cause.”

Margaret Ward, the Executive Director of the Eliza Dolittle Society, told the Sun that the nonprofit simply, “couldn’t work.” However, it was fortunate that the charity did not wait long before their call for help was answered.

Ms Ward explained: “We are really thankful for the consideration and assistance of our donors who helped us get back on our feet.

“We thank AIG, Charles Taylor, Bacardi and the two other individuals, who donated us their own personal computers.”

“Now we are looking for anyone who can help us get a network, so please come and see us.”
