The GREY GOOSE World Par 3 Championship at Turtle Hill Golf Club will next year feature a local qualifying stage for the first time.
After 2013’s hugely-successful event, which featured former Ryder Cup captain Tony Jacklin as special guest, local golfers will first compete in the Bacardi National Par 3 Tournament on January 18-19.
Successful players will advance to the World Par 3 Championship on March 28-30 at the Southampton Fairmont venue.
The local tournament will also act as a pilot ahead of plans to stage international qualifying events
in 2014 for the 2015 edition of the World Championship.
Anthony Mocklow, director of golf for Turtle Hill Golf Club, said: “The growth of this championship represents a new era of Bermuda golf tourism.
“Fairmont’s profound desire to drive golf tourism is evident and as a former playing professional and proud Bermudian, I am thrilled to be a part of the effort to reinvigorate Bermuda’s golf tourism.”
As the world’s premier par 3 championship, the finals are expected to attract 190 participants from more than 20 countries, including the likes of European Ryder Cup player Ronan Rafferty, former PGA TOUR player Ian Leggatt, former European Senior Tour winner Delroy Cambridge, Web.com player Jordan Mitchell (2013 champion) and Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer.
March is a busy time for golf fans in Bermuda, with the Bermuda Match Play Championship at Mid-Ocean Golf Club on March 5-8, the Bermuda Open at Port Royal Golf Course on March 24-27, and culminates with the GREY GOOSE World Par 3
Championship on March 28-30.
