Man admits infecting girlfriend with HIV
A 23-year-old man has admitted infecting his girlfriend with HIV.
The man was charged last month with sexually assaulting the 20-year-old woman knowing that he had HIV and not informing her that he had the disease.
At the first hearing on November 19, Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke told the court the defendant and the victim are still in a relationship. Both have tested positive for HIV.
The matter was adjourned for trial last Monday but was adjourned and the defendant was granted bail.
Yesterday he pleaded guilty to the charge and presentencing reports were ordered.
His bail was extended and he will be sentenced next month.
